Burning Ice Festival at Kaaitheater 17-23 January 2011
next to performances and speeches the festival hosts the Changing Tent Colony in front of the Kaaitheater. One of the seven tents, the Currency Tent, is fhosting my project
believe it or not
Money only works if everybody accepts it. And this trust — which is the basic condition of the very value of money— is fed in turn by the common belief in its working. A circle. A tool. Only a tool?
What is your emotional and psychological relation to money? How did you learn to believe in it? When and how did it change' you? We want to know your personal story with money. We want you to confess. Come to the confessional box in the currency tent. We'll listen to you.
The currency tent is the temple for believers of all currencies. Its gates are open:
- for a daily SERVICE, between 11:00 - 11:15:
- Each day we will express our believe in another currency by a short ceremonial service For the ones, who believe and the ones, who doubt.
- for your confessions, in our discreet CONFESSIONAL, non-stop:
- What is your emotional and psychological relation to money? How did you learn to believe in it? When and how did it change' you? We want to know your personal story with money. We want you to confess. Come to the confessional box in the currency tent. We'll listen to you.
- for a vicious gamble with your 'red money' we'll meet in the CASINO, daily between 22:30 - 0:00:
- A vicious gamble with your 'red money'. While during day time we try hard to believe in money, during the night we'll lose this believe. Then the holy temple of change shows its darker side and turns into a casino. Come and bring some 'red' change. But caution: you might win more than you can carry!
- as well as three WORKSHOPS (by netwerk vlaanderen, New Shoes, Akseli Virtanen/Jan Ritsema, ...) on complementary currencies and the Robin Hood Fond.
